Welcome to Durendo.

I built Durendo for my own retirement planning, and I continue to use it today. I wanted to answer questions that matter to me: When can I retire? What drives my plan? How robust is it? What could I do to improve it?
A career in investment management has shaped how I approach these questions. I earned my MBA at Harvard Business School, graduating with high distinction as a Baker Scholar, and I hold the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charter.
My hope is that Durendo helps you find answers to your own planning questions.

Why I built Durendo.
I started planning my retirement with increasingly complex spreadsheets. I took my plan to a couple of private banks, but their assumptions varied widely and were difficult to change. I wanted the flexibility to explore alternatives and keep refining the plan as my understanding grew.
So I started building Durendo. Working with my own plan has helped me save taxes and make better financial decisions. Just as importantly, it has given me a clearer understanding of how robust my plan is and what I could adjust if circumstances change, giving me confidence and comfort in my retirement.
What I want you to gain.
Working through a plan is a way to learn. You see how your finances fit together, how taxes and investments affect the outcome, and which choices make a meaningful difference.
I want you to gain the understanding, confidence and comfort that I have found in working with my own plan, and actionable insights with the potential to improve your financial outcomes. What you do with those insights depends on what you want your money to do for you.
What guides the work.
My own planning continues to guide Durendo’s development. There are always questions I want to explore and things I want to improve. Other users’ questions and feedback help broaden that work beyond my own needs.
- Analytical depth, presented simply. Make things as simple as possible, but no simpler. Financial planning involves complex questions; the aim is to make them easier to understand while preserving the details that affect your decisions.
- Privacy I rely on myself. My own financial plan is in Durendo. The app is built around privacy and encryption so that only you can view your financial data. Not even Durendo staff can open your financial plan.
I continue to develop Durendo for myself and for other users, using AI tools for much of the engineering. I want to make it the best planning tool it can be.
